Friday Doings
Another take out breakfast.
We lugged a ton of comics, komiks and books back to the office last night. Fortunately we have a huge aluminum metal case (just big enough for me to fit into ) that we could use to store things.
We ask Sampos to stuff it in a tuk-tuk and take it to the exhibition hall.
Call from the Indonesian Embassy, they've gotten our schedule and we work a few things out.
Looks like a lot of the meetings slated will be taken care of at Lire en Fete, which is really convenient.
We show up at Lire en Fete and a set of revised brochures with corrected French. Now we're rockin'.
Beng is quite amused at the Bubble Tea we have at lunchtime. The culinary tour of Southeast Asia continues, he takes pictures of most food he eats!
After lunch Y Lida shows up to sign 'Wrath of the Phantom Army'. He also signs a comic for Beng, it's good to see these two meet. Alas Beng has only brought 5 copies of Salamat Pagi Urbaz, we've got to get some more!
After the show winds down we hit the internet. I update our schedule, and if you want to keep track of our growing number of events click http://www.sangsalapak.org.kh/whatson/2005/11/komik-cambodia-plans.html
Then it's off to Sovanna Phum to check out the traditional dance show.
Dinner (chinese noodles) and dessert (tukaluk) are again photographed, Beng is quite amused by the fruit shake stands that constitute nightlife for much of Cambodia. Also amusing is that everyone thinks he's Khmer!

Thursday Doings
Beng and I get a take out breakfast and hit the office. There we spend most of the morning working on the quadri-lingual brochure (English, Khmer, French, Indonesian) for the upcoming week.
Still thinking of when to take time out to see Angkor Wat. Beng has yet to see the Russian Market, Tuol Sleng or Wat Phnom.
Finally our first draft is done and Beng's got some cool sketches to go with it. We head off to 'Lire en Fete'. Samphors is handling the brochures, Vuth is handling the exhibition framing. Office mate Jane is amused by our flurry of activity.
Over at Lire en Fete there are heaps of publishers both nonprofit and for profit. It's looking even more together this year than last year. Beng is slated to do a workshop on Saturday.
Beng is quite enthused by seeing all the literary action and it's fun to get things moving along.
Back to the office, we order a pizza and do some scanning and planning. Goodness me do we have a lot of pictures and video.

Wednesday Doings
Early morning email from Sovanna Phum, they are OK to do the film showings! Great. I ask Samphors/Vuth to print out and frame the final copies of the OSJI posters. Coming along. And after that I ask Samphos to scan Beng’s portfolio.
We copy the jam strips and look at them. They don’t flow perfectly, we’ll need some more time to get the strips going. We do have another week and a half. Maybe we can do two more meetings.
Beng and I meet with Chea Pearom of ‘Tam Tam’ who is finalizing the ‘Fantomes’ comic Lisa Mandel did in her workshop. My French isn’t perfect but I’ve had some help via email and locally. We also tweak the design a little.
Lunch at the French Cultural Centre. We look at some of the video from last night. Beng’s friend in Indonesia may be able to edit it for us, something I hadn’t thought of. The schedule is filling up, how will we find time to go to Angkor Wat? Hmm…
We meet the Librarian, Pierre, who is heading up Lire En Fete and set a time for Beng’s Saturday workshop – ‘Tools and Tales’ (2pm).
Also run into Sabine Trannin, film friend who is interested in all kinds of motion pictures. She’s got to come to the screening, we’ve got to get more film folks in the loop.
Post lunch? It’s time for coffee! Beng and I hit a local coffee store and he is enthralled. (I take video of this momentous occasion.)
Even more enthralling is our brief visit to Svay Ken’s studio. One side is a pharmacy, the other a small goods shop. It’s a very humble place filled with art by an artist with no pretensions. We ask if we can video the shop and Svay Ken’s wife says she can call him over. We realize that we’re running late, and our artist would need more than a cursory show and tell. We ask if we can meet him at a later time. (Svay Ken info to Indonesia! That would rock.)
I’ve got to hit the bank and do some errands and Beng takes some time of his own. Sarin over at Studio CLA has made MP3s of ‘Music From and Inspired by QuickDraw’. Alright. I call Linda at Sun Dew, the exhibition is on, so we now have all our dates confirmed! Time for a press release or something.
Samphors has scanned a big chunk of Beng’s portfolio. Vuth has some family concerns so he’s taking the afternoon off. The Legal posters are on the way, complete with frames tomorrow. I just need to write some artist bios.
Beng comes by the office, time for downloading pictures and blogging. We are wild and crazy, no?

*4pm Beng and I visit ‘Sun Dew’ artspace, they are game for exhibition! This could be fun. We’re thinking Sunday.
*Rush rush to Book Sector Federation for meeting of Comics Group. Beng introduces the concept of a jam strip when suddenly…
POWER OUTAGE!
We are suddenly illuminated by the glow of everyone’s high tech mobile phone. We draw by lamp light and soon enough the power is back on . At 8pm we are getting tired. It’s been a full day for Samphors and Vuth. After some Chinese food Beng and get some sleep. We forgot to show Beng’s portfolio! Well, we can do it at Lire en Fete, the book festival starting Thursday afternoon.

Food Fun Cambodia
Beng Rahadian arrived Monday 21st for the "Komik Cambodia" exchange project, with a big pile of Indonesian comics to share.
But we all know the the real objective: a culinary tour of mainland southeast asia!
We managed to oblige him with some dim sum at a late lunch. Courtesy his nifty phonecam he's been able to capture quite a few pictures.
Dazed and amused.
