Sharing is Caring: promotional fun.

So you’ve done all that work on your comic, and now you’ve got a stack of copies warm from the photocopy place. Sure would be nice to get a little interest now, right?

Maybe it’s time to do what our muso pals do: write a press release and wing it out to all and sundry.

You should include who, what, where and how. This is an art form in and of itself. Here’s an example:

Mr. Sensitivity Goes to Mars

Is a 22 page photocopied comic that blows the lid off the the secret cosmic connection between Martian beer and Southern Californian culture. Drawn by Zeldon James with additional dialogue polish by Jennie Brewer, you’ll find the precise pencils, lush inks and sophisticated storytelling a treat for your eyes.

Earlier fabbo Mr. Sensitivity comics have gotten praise in such places as Punk Planet and Astrogrrrl. (See enclosed reviews)

Sixteen pencils, 3 erasers, and two bottles of ink were used for the senses-shattering scrawling! At the end the Author collapsed with blood pouring out his nose! But you don’t have to go to such extremes to engage with the story – just trot down to your local comics store.

Available at: Cute Comics (Petaluma store only), Reject Records, and Rotating Records.

Along with your press release, it might be good to include photocopies of old reviews, samples of the art – anything that indicates it’s worth a reader, or reviewer’s, interest.

The places to send to are endless. For comics specifically, it might be good to start with places that have given results before.

The people below have a track record for reviewing small press comics by our pals (indeed, they’ll review almost anything winged by ‘em, if you follow their submission rules):
